August 22nd is National Take Your Cat to The Vet Day

Thursday, August 22nd is National Take Your Cat to The Vet Day.

As most pet owners know, veterinary visits can be extremely stressful for both the pet and the owner. The Animal Medical Center of Mid-America urges cat owners to try to make this vet visit as smooth as possible. One suggestion they advise is to get your cat acquainted with their pet carrier by leaving it in an open area where the cat may explore, and to provide comfortable bedding or a toy for the cat while they are in their carrier.

Assistant Medical Director for Animal Medical Center of Mid-America, Nicole Fulcher, says that annual visits are essential for overall feline care.

"We recommend annual veterinary visits for cats.  Usually if they are healthy, up to - it just depends on the patient - but we recommend annual visits.  Those are kind of the basic examinations, vaccinations.  We usually will check a fecal sample and talk to the owners about preventions.  So just like their dog, we recommend a visit."
